Polar Photography
A humpback whale surfaces just off the bow of our expedition vessel and after a frantic rush to the rail to watch, we all go silent. A great exhalation of air is heard, the whoosh of the intake and then the back arches and fluke start to show as the whale sounds (dives). The silence is broken by the click of shutters as we all struggle to capture this wonderful moment on our cameras.
Throughout our voyage, there will be numerous opportunities just like this one to photograph and capture these memories to take home with you. Whether it is for your own personal satisfaction or to show your friends and family when you get home, you expect your images to be of high quality and easy to look at. From multimedia presentations to group workshops on the outer decks or in a Zodiac, our onboard photographer will offer advice and instruction.
Our onboard photographer will be available to work with you throughout the voyage to help you improve your photography and will encourage you to look at scenes or events in a different way in order to capture them digitally. You can ask questions to "tweak" your own work and then stay alongside our resident expert on each excursion, gaining valuable improvements to your own work as he/she relates their own career's experiences.
In addition, we will have a multimedia download studio on the ship. In here you will find computers and cables for downloading your images, as well as numbered hard-drives to store them on until you are ready to back them up to your own media device. You will also be able to purchase disks and burn DVD's of your images to take with you.
Who can participate?
The onboard photographer will be available to help anyone with a camera and an interest in being creative.
What is provided?
We provide the photographic expert and lots of opportunity for great things to happen. Antarctica provides the awesome wildlife and scenery.
What you need to bring?
You need to bring your camera with data cards, sufficient storage capacity for your photos for the entire voyage, a spare battery for your camera (if possible), the battery charger, the USB download cable and your camera manual. The camera manual is especially important if the camera is new to you and you want some help in figuring it out.
If you are still a die-hard and are using a camera with film, that's great too! Our photographers know a thing or two about that as well.
